Clear Spot Recording is a small home studio in my basement. It's not really a
commercial
studio, I just love making music. It
started out about 7 years ago when I was
playing in sort of a band. Our
keyboard player carried
around his pc so he could play a
software synth. He was also
running Cubase on it so we started putting up a couple of
mics to
record our rehersals. Then I had the idea to buy a little mackie mixer and some
mics so I could sub mix my drum set to a stereo pair. Then I could
record the drums
seperately from the rest of the band.
Well, things sort
of snowballed from there. It has been quite a progression from just
being a drummer in a band to getting totally into recording. Now all I do is eat, sleep
and drink all the info I get my hands on
about recording technique. I am totally hooked
on it like a crack
addict.
Recently I have been doing some small projects/demos for local bands
and friends of
mine. I don't get paid alot but I am still learning alot
and having fun. I have done
everything from gangster rap to
bluegrass. And most other styles of music including
R&B, jazz,
rock, gospel, funk, blues whatever you want to do. I like all styles of
music and
try to stay out of the way of other peoples projects. I don't
want to be a "producer" or a
manager or a record lable. And don't have
much to say about other peoples material. I
just stay neutral an set up
mics and push record and play. I'm still learning all sorts of
new and
old tricks for mixing. I know it takes a long time to get results that
sound like big
lable productions but I will get there someday. For now
I'm doing ok with what I do know.
I will try to post some tunes from some of the projects I have been
working on. Some of
the tunes on here so far need to be remixed and
cleaned up some. I have been working
for local hip-hop maestro the one and only Dot Mills. Have also
done a couple of
projects for local hip-hop group TCB, aka
Them Carolina Boys, also up and coming
rapper Young Steella. I also did a
demo for Local guitarist Mike Hager and his 4 piece
band. Right now I'm
working with my friend Scott Pressley and his group "Our Time"
which is
a side project from Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs with which they
all play
and sing with. I also just did a demo for local R&B/Gospel group Sound Bridge. There
are several other things I have going on
like ongoing project with Reggie Dennis and not
to mention my own
projects with local bassist Brian Jacobs.
I will try to get some of this stuff cleaned up and posted for your
listening
pleasure,
Stay Tuned!
